3 Ways to Protect Your Skin From the Signs of Aging

Everyone has to age. There are going to be fine lines and wrinkles appearing as the days tick by. You can guarantee that at some point you will see your skin start to loosen and sag more than you want it to. There is no way of getting around the fact that as human beings we naturally age with time. Is that not what you wanted to hear? Good, because there are things you can do to severely limit how old your skin looks.

You may be forced to accent some signs of aging as you get older, but there is no reason to ever look your true age! Following are three things that everyone should be doing to limit the signs of aging on the skin. The younger you start these things the better your skin will age, so tell everyone you know to start protecting their skin today.

1. Protect your skin from the sun at all times, year round.

Sun block is not just for babies and toddlers heading out for the swimming pool with mommy. Mommy and every other adult need to wear sun block as well. Here's the most important thing: you should be blocking sun from your skin year round, every single time you walk out of the house. When you just walk real quick from your car to the store and back again, you are exposing your skin to sunlight.

Even when you see it is too overcast to burn your skin, there is some sunlight out there and you are exposing your skin to it. Over time, sunlight is very bad for the skin. It dries your skin out and contributes to the dull, lifeless appearance that you see on areas of the body typically exposed to the elements. Why do you think your arms are so much dryer and older looking than your stomach, chest and other areas that are mostly covered?

2. Stay away from cigarette smoke.

Cigarettes are bad news if your goal is to stay young and fresh looking. When you ingest cigarette smoke you rob your body of its healing capacity and contribute to the early breakdown of collagen and elastin within the skin. This means you start to look years older long before you have to. Are the cigarettes really worth it?

3. Consider IPL treatment to rejuvenate the skin and replenish collagen.

If you are already seeing some early signs of aging that aren't making you real happy, go in for a consultation with a local provider offering IPL treatments. This light therapy will help your skin rejuvenate with fresh collagen while reducing or wiping out the appearance of damage on the skin.

If you have skin that looks older than it should, then IPL may be able to turn back the hands of time and give you a new chance to start protecting your skin from future sunlight damage. This is a very gentle, minimally invasive procedure that doesn't require any recovery time at all. If you have heard of lunchtime cosmetic surgery, this is one of the safest procedures that could fit into that category.

You are going to age some over the years, but you should never have to look your actual age! Everyone can look years younger if they put out a little effort to protect the skin from environmental hazards like smoke and sunlight.
